Haemostatic factors and ischaemic heart disease. The Caerphilly study.

چکیده
In a preliminary report from the Caerphilly study four haemostatic factors showed univariate associations with prevalent ischaemic heart disease after adjusting for age. These factors were fibrinogen concentration, plasma viscosity, white cell count, and the heparin-thrombin clotting time. Age and these haemostatic variables were entered into a stepwise multiple logistic regression analysis; after age the white cell count and heparin-thrombin clotting time remained significantly associated with ischaemic heart disease. Further regression analyses indicated that diastolic blood pressure contributed additionally to this association with ischaemic heart disease but that smoking habit did not.

Temperature and risk factors for ischaemic heart disease in the Caerphilly prospective study.
OBJECTIVE To examine the associations between air temperature and risk factors for ischaemic heart disease. METHOD Data on risk factors are available from up to 2036 men in the Caerphilly Prospective Heart Disease Study. Daily temperatures were obtained from the Meteorological Office. Relations between these were examined by regression. RESULTS The coldest month of the year has a mean tempe...

OBJECTIVE To look for the presence of the more virulent strains of Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) in men who developed ischaemic heart disease over a 10 year period and in controls. DESIGN The Caerphilly prospective heart disease study recruited 2512 men aged 45-59 years during 1979-83. Western blot analysis or enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed on serum taken from those ...

OBJECTIVES To investigate the effect of Chlamydia pneumoniae infection on future development of ischaemic heart disease and mortality. DESIGN Prospective longitudinal study. SETTING Caerphilly, South Wales. SUBJECTS Plasma specimens were collected during 1979-83 from 1773 men aged 45-59 years. These were tested for IgG and IgA antibodies to C pneumoniae (TW183) by microimmunofluorescence....

OBJECTIVE To assess the roles of plasma triglyceride and high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol concentrations in predicting ischaemic heart disease. DESIGN Two prospective cohort studies with common core protocols. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Both cohorts are 100% samples of middle aged men. In Caerphilly the 2512 men were living within a defined area. In Speedwell the 2348 men were regis...
متن کاملHaemostatic factors associated with ischaemic heart disease in men aged 45 to 64 years. The Speedwell study.
In the Speedwell study set up to examine primarily the relation of plasma lipids and ischaemic heart disease in men aged 45 to 64 years drawn randomly from the practices of 16 general practitioners, various haemostatic factors which may contribute both to thrombogenesis and atherogenesis were measured. Fibrinogen measured nephelometrically and plasma viscosity were positively associated with th...
